Brian Aldiss visits his Publisher Mike Goldmark at Goldmark Gallery Uppingham to talk about his book "Walcot". Buy your copy from Goldmark's website http://www.goldmarkbooks.com Synopsis - On the glorious sands of the North Norfolk coast, Steve, the youngest member of the Fielding family, plays alone. But are these halcyon days? The great events of the Twentieth Century are about to sweep Steve and his sister Sonia into deep waters. Chance is all. The fortunes of the Fielding family continue through the storms of world events marking the outrageous years of the Twentieth Century. "Walcot" reveals Aldiss at his formidable and all-embracing best. Brian Aldiss has described this novel as his magnum opus. Aldiss says: "The most beautiful -- and heavy -- book I've ever had published. The history of the 20th century told through the experiences of one family." Colin Greenland had this to say in The Guardian: "Walcot, then, comes out as a sort of pageant, a chronicle of modern times with commentary from Aristotle -- Steve is a lifelong devotee -- and alternately jaundiced and cheerful reflections from Aldiss himself." Author Biography - Poet, playwright, critic, fiction and science-fiction writer Brian W. Aldiss was born on 18 August 1925 in Dereham, Norfolk, and is the author of more than 75 books. He is also vice-president of the H. G. Wells Society, and has been greatly influenced by his work. He lives in Oxford and was awarded an OBE in 2005 for Services to Literature. Aldiss' works have been influential themselves: his short story Super-Toys Last All Summer Long inspired Kubrick and Spielburg's A.I. Artificial Intelligence. Aldiss is also the recipient of numerous international awards for writing including a Kurd Lasswitz Award (Germany) and a Prix Jules Verne (Sweden). What is Goldmark Gallery?
