This song gets me feeling some kind of way, and it’s definitely not melancholy! Insaneintherainmusic's jazz cover / remix of Mining Melancholy from Donkey Kong Country.

It’s been FAR too long since I’ve tackled one of the legendary songs from David Wise’s Donkey Kong Country 2 soundtrack. Stickerbrush (Stickerbush????) Symphony has always been a fan favorite, but I’ve particularly enjoyed Mining Melancholy as well, mainly due to its awesome yet simple melody. I haven’t played DKC2 unfortunately, but I’m a big fan of the first iteration in the series. Their soundtracks are pretty similar, and are equally great! This song is very typical of Wise’nds compositional style, as evident throughout the soundtracks of both of these games.
My goal with arranging this song was to preserve the harmonic simplicity of the song, and focus on groove! I actually purchased a cowbell just for this song, and I think it adds a lot to the auxiliary percussion groove, which is so pivotal to the tune! There were plenty of times where I was mixing this song where I just got up from my desk and started dancing, which is a great sign that the groove is still going strong! I took a very layered approach to this song, incorporating a lot of different types of sounds, such as a overdriven rhodes sound with a lot of reverb, organ, muted guitar, and low piano doubling bass (which is one of my favorite sounds). The end result came out sounding a lot like something from Snarky Puppy’s Culcha Vulcha, which I guess is typical of my channel by now…! I’m personally quite happy with how this one came out, and I hope you guys are as well. More Donkey Kong Country to come!
