Silver Mining Documentary - How Silver Is Mined and Reformed - Prehistoric TV

42:25
Silver Mining Documentary - How Silver Is Mined and Reformed - Prehistoric TV Silver is a chemical element with symbol Ag (from the Latin argentum, derived from the Greek ὰργὀς: "shiny" or "white") and atomic number 47. A soft, white, lustrous transition metal, it exhibits the highest electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, and reflectivity of any metal. The metal is found in the Earth's crust in the pure, free elemental form ("native silver"), as an alloy with gold and other metals, and in minerals such as argentite and chlorargyrite. Most silver is produced as a byproduct of copper, gold, lead, and zinc refining. Silver has long been valued as a precious metal. Silver metal is used in many bullion coins, sometimes alongside gold: while it is more abundant than gold, it is much less abundant as a native metal. Its purity is typically measured on a per-mille basis; a 94%-pure alloy is described as "0.940 fine". As one of the seven metals of antiquity, silver has had an enduring role in most human cultures. Silver is used in numerous applications other than currency, such as solar panels, water filtration, jewellery, ornaments, high-value tableware and utensils (hence the term silverware), and as an investment medium (coins and bullion). Silver is used industrially in electrical contacts and conductors, in specialized mirrors, window coatings, and in catalysis of chemical reactions. Silver compounds are used in photographic film and X-rays. Dilute silver nitrate solutions and other silver compounds are used as disinfectants and microbiocides (oligodynamic effect), added to bandages and wound-dressings, catheters, and other medical instruments. Ancient Mining Techniques[History Documentary]HD

45:14
Ancient mining techniques go well back into our history – well back into ourprehistory, in fact. As we progressed through the Stone Age, with more and more sophisticated tools and weapons being designed and developed, so too,our need for more and better raw materials for these implements. Stone and flint led to copper, then bronze, gold, silver, iron… all in the name of progress, war, technology, vanity or greed. In fact, it’s ironic (pun intended) that the substance prized and even mined by our ancient ancestors for some of the earliest stone tools and weapons – flint – was later a hindrance encountered by Classical miners – who were in many cases also Classical minors – in gold mining galleries described by Pliny the Elder in the 1st century AD as “thought to be the hardest thing that exists, except greed for gold, which is the most stubborn of all things. A-Z Documentaries - Precious Metals - Gold, Platinum, Silver, Steel etc

50:41
A precious metal is a rare, naturally occurring metallic chemical element of high economic value. Chemically, the precious metals tend to be less reactive than most elements (see noble metal). They are usually ductile and have a high lustre. Historically, precious metals were important as currency but are now regarded mainly as investment and industrial commodities. Gold, silver, platinum, and palladium each have an ISO 4217 currency code. The best known precious metals are the coinage metals, which are gold and silver. Although both have industrial uses, they are better known for their uses in art, jewelry, fine jewelry and coinage. Other precious metals include the platinum group metals: ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, osmium, iridium, and platinum, of which platinum is the most widely traded.[1] The demand for precious metals is driven not only by their practical use but also by their role as investments and a store of value. Historically, precious metals have commanded much higher prices than common industrial metals.

CONRAD'S SILVER MINES

09:19
Hello and welcome to my channel. While traveling on the South Klondike Highway from Carcross Yukon to Skagway Alaska, you will notice the old mining structures. Those are the Venus Mine Mill on your left and looking up the steep hill on your right you will see the ore tramway towers from 1906 mining operation. There were two newer mines operating in 1970-1979 and have been rehabilitated. Inspired by the book Fractured Veins & Broken Dreams written by Murray Lundberg, I explored what was left from the old days. Time however has left its mark on the aging mining structures. This video presentation captures the mining history in the Yukon. Please subscribe to my channel and become a supporter.

Silver compounds are used in photographic film and X-rays. Dilute silver nitrate solutions and other silver compounds are used as disinfectants and microbiocides (oligodynamic effect), added to bandages and wound-dressings, catheters, and other medical instruments... Jewelry and silverware Jewelry and silverware are traditionally made from sterling silver (standard silver), an alloy of 92.5% silver with 7.5% copper. In the US, only alloys at least 0.900-fine silver can be sold as "silver" (frequently stamped 900). Sterling silver (stamped 925) is harder than pure silver and has a lower melting point (893 °C) than either pure silver or pure copper.[5] Britannia silver is an alternative, hallmark-quality standard containing 95.8% silver, often used for silver tableware and wrought plate. The patented alloy Argentium sterling silver is formed by the addition of germanium, having improved properties including resistance to firescale. Sterling silver jewelry is often plated with a thin coat of .999-fine silver to create a shiny finish. This process is called "flashing". Silver jewelry can also be plated with rhodium (for a bright shine) or gold (silver gilt). Silver is a constituent of almost all colored carat gold alloys and carat gold solders, giving the alloys paler color and greater hardness. White 9-carat gold contains 62.5% silver and 37.5% gold, while 22-carat gold contains a minimum of 91.7% gold and 8.3% silver or copper or other metals. Historically, the training and guild organization of goldsmiths included silversmiths, and the two crafts remain largely overlapping. Unlike blacksmiths, silversmiths do not shape the metal while it is softened with heat, but work it at room temperature with gentle and carefully placed hammer blows. The essence of silversmithing is to transform a piece of flat metal into a useful object with hammers, stakes, and other simple tools. While silversmiths specialize and work principally in silver, they also work with other metals, such as gold, copper, steel, and brass, to make jewelry, silverware, armor, vases, and other artistic items. Because silver is so malleable, silversmiths have many choices for working the metal. Historically, silversmiths are usually called goldsmiths and are usually members of the same guild. The western Canadian silversmith tradition does not include guilds but mentoring through colleagues is a common method of professional advancement. Traditionally, silversmiths mostly made "silverware" (cutlery, tableware, bowls, candlesticks and such). Handmade solid silver tableware is now much less common...

Silver Mining in Bolivia

01:22
Explore the famous silver mines of Potosi with Breaking Borders. Historians estimate that nearly 8 million men have died since the 16th century working in the Cerro Rico mines of Potosi. The mines were so important and rich that the Spanish were able to bankroll their empire with the silver found in this exact mine. The silver was then taken by llama train to the Pacific coast, shipped north to Panama City and then across the atlantic to Spain. The Truth About Silver & Gold Mining Stocks - Mike Maloney

16:49
Mining stocks can be good investments, but you introduce risks that don't exist if you invest in physical gold and silver. I personally did quite well with miners in the early 2000's, but in hindsight a lot of it was simply due to luck. Stay away from the pump & dumpers, and any businesses that associate with them. Watch this week's video to get my current take on gold & silver stocks and the overall economy. If you enjoyed watching this video, be sure to check out the Hidden Secrets of Money website at https://www.hiddensecretsofmoney.com/. It’s a world-leading educational series by Mike Maloney, the bestselling author of the Guide to Investing in Gold & Silver. As Mike explains in the series and his book, we live in an economic system that is made complicated by design. Basically, it’s set up so most people don’t even try to understand it. In Mike’s videos, he breaks down these concepts using easy-to-follow analogies, real pages from history, and animations that tie it all together. Ontario, Canada. The Cobalt Silver mining area is featured. L/S of the mining town. Various tracks for transporting silver and houses or outbuildings for processing. Camera pans across the settlement. M/S of two men working underground in the mines. They operate a drilling tool. Closer shot of the men drilling a hole in the rock face. C/U of the tool pounding into the rock. Good C/U of man lighting several tapers which have been inserted into holes in the rock. He walks away leaving them to burn. M/S of the rubble left after the explosion (explosion not seen). Workers walk across the rubble. Two men greet each other by tipping their hats as their paths cross. M/S of men pointing to a silver vein. C/U of the vein. C/U of man putting his pick against the vein - this shows how massive it is - it looks unreal. The ore is loaded into chucks. M/S of man pulling ore down into a container on wheels then pushing it along. A small electric underground train travels towards the camera. It pulls many trucks containing ore. M/S of miner pushing the truck into a lift. It is then lifted up and out of shot. An aerial cable system is used to transport the ore to the mills. Shots of containers of ore travelling on the cable system - exteriors and interiors of their departure from the mine and arrival at their destination. Worker catches a container and tips it into a vat. Men work on a conveyor belt sorting the ore - good shot from high angle. C/U of a large piece of silver held in a hand. Men sort ore as before. A vessel holding melted ore is pulled from a furnace. The silver is poured into moulds. Man tips the moulds over and silver ingots drop out. Two men work together , one pulls ingots from the furnace, the other stacks them on a barrow. The barrow is pulled and pushed through a doorway. Story ends with the intertitle. "And that was the end of our perfect day." Was a Pathe Pictorial item. FILM ID:860.07 A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ. EXPLORE OUR ONLINE CHANNEL, BRITISH PATHÉ TV. The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lead Wikipedia license: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ Lead has been commonly used for thousands of years because it is widespread, easy to extract and easy to work with. It is highly malleable as well as easy to smelt. Metallic lead beads dating back to 6400 BCE have been found in Çatalhöyük in modern-day Turkey. In the early Bronze Age, lead was used with antimony and arsenic. The largest preindustrial producer of lead was the Roman economy, with an estimated annual output of 80,000 tonnes, which was typically won as a by-product of extensive silver smelting. Roman mining activities occurred in Central Europe, Roman Britain, the Balkans, Greece, Asia Minor and Hispania which alone accounted for 40% of world production. Roman lead pipes often bore the insignia of Roman emperors (see Roman lead pipe inscriptions). Lead plumbing in the Latin West may have been continued beyond the age of Theoderic the Great into the medieval period. Many Roman "pigs" (ingots) of lead figure in Derbyshire lead mining history and in the history of the industry in other English centers. The Romans also used lead in molten form to secure iron pins that held together large limestone blocks in certain monumental buildings. In alchemy, lead was thought to be the oldest metal and was associated with the planet Saturn. Alchemists accordingly used Saturn's symbol (the scythe, ♄) to refer to lead. Up to the 17th century, tin was often not distinguished from lead: lead was called plumbum nigrum (literally, "black lead"), while tin was called plumbum candidum (literally, "bright lead")... Most ores contain less than 10% lead, and ores containing as little as 3% lead can be economically exploited. Ores are crushed and concentrated by froth flotation typically to 70% or more. Sulfide ores are roasted, producing primarily lead oxide and a mixture of sulfates and silicates of lead and other metals contained in the ore. Lead oxide from the roasting process is reduced in a coke-fired blast furnace to the metal. Additional layers separate in the process and float to the top of the metallic lead. These are slag (silicates containing 1.5% lead), matte (sulfides containing 15% lead), and speiss (arsenides of iron and copper). These wastes contain concentrations of copper, zinc, cadmium, and bismuth that can be recovered economically, as can their content of unreduced lead. Metallic lead that results from the roasting and blast furnace processes still contains significant contaminants of arsenic, antimony, bismuth, zinc, copper, silver, and gold. The melt is treated in a reverberatory furnace with air, steam, and sulfur, which oxidizes the contaminants except silver, gold, and bismuth. The oxidized contaminants are removed by drossing, where they float to the top and are skimmed off. Since lead ores contain significant concentrations of silver, the smelted metal also is commonly contaminated with silver. Metallic silver as well as gold is removed and recovered economically by means of the Parkes process. Desilvered lead is freed of bismuth according to the Betterton-Kroll process by treating it with metallic calcium and magnesium, which forms a bismuth dross that can be skimmed off. Very pure lead can be obtained by processing smelted lead electrolytically by means of the Betts process. The process uses anodes of impure lead and cathodes of pure lead in an electrolyte of silica fluoride...

This Is What One Mining CEO Thinks Could Happen To Silver

03:29
Silver, when compared to the price of gold, is overdue for a rebound, said Eric Fier, CEO of SilverCrest Metals. “If you look at the gold-silver ratio…we’re at 80 to 1 right now. The last bear market, that was the bottom too, so I got the feeling we’re looking at a pretty good recovery,” Fier told Kitco News on the sidelines of the PDAC 2018. Fier noted that a rally in silver would be a gradual process. “[Recoveries] never come drastically, it’s always just working its way up, and I think we’re there,” he said. ________________________________________________________________ Kitco News is the world’s #1 source of metals market information. Another Large Silver Miner is Getting Out of the Silver Mining Business?

08:46
Long time primary silver miner, Hecla Mining, recently announced the takeover of Klondex Mines http://ir.hecla-mining.com/file/Index?KeyFile=392644009. Klondex has 3 producing gold mines and is not a silver miner. With this acquisition, Hecla's revenues will now be primarily from gold mining (at 50% of their total revenues) while only 30% of total revenues is now from silver mining. Jason outlines in the video how Nolan Watson confirmed this trend 2 weeks ago in his new interview that primary silver mines are NOT economic compared to primary gold mines. Many of the larger primary silver miners like: Fresnillo, Coeur D'Alene Mining (CDE), Hecla Mining and Silver Standard (now SSR Resources) are all moving much larger percentages of their total annual revenues into gold mining and away from silver mining. At just above $16/oz when this video was recorded, we are not at a silver price where other than Mag Silver's massive mine that new primary silver mines can be economic. In 2013, Hecla Mining start moving their revenues away from silver with their acquisition of Aurizon Mines and their producing gold mine in Quebec http://ir.hecla-mining.com/file/Index?KeyFile=17249854 Please visit the Wall St for Main St website here: http://www.wallstformainst.com/ Follow Jason Burack on Twitter @JasonEBurack Follow Wall St for Main St on Twitter @WallStforMainSt Commit to tipping us monthly for our hard work creating high level, thought proving content about investing and the economy https://www.patreon.com/wallstformainst Also, please take 5 minutes to leave us a good iTunes review here! Visit To Calico Ghost Town: Popular Authentic Restored Silver Mining Town

16:41
http://www.hollywoodhaunter.com/ This is a real abandoned mining ghost town fixed up by Walter Knott. Join us for a fun birthday shenanigans at the Knott's Berry Farm sponsored Calico Old Mining Ghost Town in Yermo California located 13 miles east of Barstow in the Mojave Desert in the Calico Mountains. This popular tourist attraction that is a multi colored rocky mountain area produced one of the richest silver strikes in California history back in the 1800s. Back then the population rose to 1,200 people. After three hours of plundering the towns many saloons we paid a quick visit to the Rainbow Basin a natural area that has multi-colored rock formations. I wanted to spend the day doing something different with the birthday girl so I surprised her with this low key relaxing trip out to the desert. We even picked up a few inspirations for our Halloween home haunt decorated yard this year which happens to be an old abandoned western ghost town. We comment along the way as we explore and travel through the town and make prop, haunter, and Halloween references. You will see us explore old buildings, shops, abandoned silver mine called Maggie Shaft, Glory Holes, gold panning, see antique tools and equipment, mystery shacks that make us wheezy and gun slinging fights in the streets. The trip gave us several ideas for building all our Halloween ghost town facades. We didn't stay for the stunning Mojave sunset. Thanks for watching and joining us on this little adventure. The Zacatecas Mining District

04:27
In this video, we look at the Zacatecas Mining District in detail including the current mining operations, mining history, infrastructure, and the three major vein systems. Mr. Bruce Winfield, M.Sc., P.Geo, has over 35 years of experience in the mining industry. Following 14 years with major mining companies Texasgulf Inc. and Boliden Inc., he focused on exploration in Central America and Mexico as VP Exploration for Greenstone Resources and Eldorado Gold Corp. leading to the exploration and development of five gold deposits including the Oronorte Gold Mine in Colombia; the open pit, heap leach Santa Rosa Gold Mine in Panama; the 60,000 oz per year La Libertad Gold Mine in Nicaragua; and the 40,000 oz per year San Andres Gold Mine in Honduras. Subsequently as President and CEO, Mr. Winfield has led companies exploring primarily in South America for the last fourteen years. Mr. Richard (Rick) Tschauder M.Sc. has over 30 years experience in exploration, development and production in the mining industry, both in North America and internationally. For 15 years, Rick was chief geologist for Hecla Mining Company. From 1984 until 1995, he was involved in acquisition efforts that led to a ten-fold increase in Hecla’s gold reserves, and was instrumental in bringing a number of mines to production. Since 1996 Mr. Tschauder has specialized in providing evaluation, acquisition and project management services internationally with a focus in Mexico where he has extensive knowledge of geology and the mining industry.
