"Sri Lanka, the Gem Island" by GIA
With this short documentary you will accompany GIA Field Gemologist Vincent Pardieu and his team as they introduce you to Sri Lanka one of the world major sapphire suppliers. Located in the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka has developed for centuries a deep culture about sapphire mining and trading, and it is still currently one of the most active sapphire mining areas in the world. Dear all, I'm happy to invite you to discover the most recent field video on my new YouTube Channel: While visiting Sri Lanka in January 2018 to collect reference samples for the Bahrain Institute for Pearls & gemstones (DANAT) we did some experiment about heat treatment of sapphires and I'm happy to invite you to discover that very traditional and very mysterious technique that is practiced for more than 1,000 years people in Sri Lanka. It is called "blow pipe" and it is used remove the blue or yellow color in rubies and sapphires. Nevertheless with modern times new techniques were discovered and the traditional "blow pipe" technique is less used nowadays as the trade is actually more interested in techniques developing the blue color and with technique that enable a more precise control on key factors such as temperature and pressure. Many thanks for this video to all the people we met in Sri Lanka for their support and more particularly to Master Simon and Mr Punsiri from Ratnapura in Sri Lanka for their welcome and of course to my cameraman Didier Barriere Doleac and my driver Sunil. Enjoy
Searching for Gemstone Mine in the Appalachian Mountains
This is shot at a hidden underground stream near the foot of the Appalachian Mountains. The stream pops up out of a quartz spring. There is mica and quartz all over the stream. It was rumored that at the heart of this spring was an emerald vein. Several of the locals I spoke with said they had found gemstones here.

Arriving in Sri Lanka & Moonstone Mine
So, after multiple preparations, vaccinations, research and planing, my adventure begins. I arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday and this country is just so amazingly beautiful, wild and natural. I haven't seen much yet, only part of Ambalangoda and the Moonstone Mine. They find beautiful minerals in all types and colours there, and make really nice gems out of them. Cant wait till tomorrow!

Crystal Nomads - A Sri Lankan Story
After months of planning we finally made it to Sri Lanka, a land so rich in beauty and natural diversity. From sub-tropical jungles; rolling hills; cloud covered mountains to white sandy beaches and coastal mangroves, this compact island country has it all. The people however make it one of the most hospitable countries we have ever visited. We set forth on a quest to find Sri Lanka's mystical Moonstone! Travelling over 1,000km's from the capital city of Colombo down south and then up north along the eastern coast and back across the central highlands, finally making it to the minings districts where traditional mining methods are still practiced today. After a beautiful traditional lunch at our close friend Mohamed's house, he took us to visit an active moonstone mine where we had a unique experience of taking part in the daily mining activities. On our way back to Colombo, we spent some time roaming around the hustling streets of Ratnapura, which in Sinhalese means 'City of Gems'. A big thanks to all our Sri Lankan friends and specially to our close friend and Gemstone expert Mohamed for making this happen! We are The Crystal Nomads and we are passionate about travel and adventure. We love experiencing different cultures and learning about the history of the land and its people. Nature and conservation is at the core of our values and we raise awareness through documenting our travels through photography and videography!

Red Embers Mine "The garnet and graphite experience"
The Red Embers Mine is a PRIVATE mine located near the village of Erving in western Massachusetts. The mine has been in operation for approximately 8 years exclusively by the Baskin family and Jay's Minerals. The exceptional gem quality Almandine Garnet specimens we mine are some of the finest found in the American northeast. The host rock for these unique and unusual garnet specimens is a silvery grey graphite schist. We use a time consuming air abrasion process to meticulously expose each crystal from the graphite matrix. When back lit each garnet seems to glow like the crimson red embers of a burning fire. If you have any questions you can contact Jason @ [email protected] For fine specimens directly from the mine please contact: Jay's Minerals at [email protected] Alan's Quality Minerals at [email protected] Treasure Mountain Mining at www.treasuremountainmining.com Background sounds provided by:Impact Moderato by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100618 Artist: http://incompetech.com/

The Crystal Collector: Missouri trip Top Jewelry grade Drusy quartz
This trip brings us to Missouri where we dig at a private location for Barite, Galena, and my personal favorite....micro-crystalline(drusy) quartz on stromatolites (fossil algae). I know it doesn't sound that appealing but let me tell you, the drusy quartz we dig from this spot has the best twinkle/sparkle that I have ever seen! It's like thousands of tiny melee diamonds twinkling when the light catches it. I sold every last piece I had from this dig and I had a bunch. The most coveted is the nice white or blueish-gray drusy on fossil coral pieces. It has to be seen in person, in sunlight especially, to really appreciate it. This stuff was laying all over the place and we collected till we could carry no more. .Please try to help us out on eBay. This assures that we will continue providing you with new locations and new videos. http://www.ebay.com/usr/okjunk and http://stores.ebay.com/ULTRA-ROCKS

Sapphire mining around Chanthaburi (Thailand)
Dear all, I'm happy to invite you to discover the most recent field video on my new YouTube Channel: This time, I'm going to take you to discover sapphire mining around Chanthaburi in Thailand: Since the early 2000, the areas around Khao Ploy Wen volcano and Ban Ka Cha village have become one of the world most active sapphire mining areas producing mainly black star and yellow sapphires. The video was done in March 2017 and for the first time in that area we had a drone to help us getting images of the mining. Thanks to my team for that expedition: My field cameramen: Didier Barriere and Anthony Methez from Nomad's Media and Nomads Drone and my team mates: Justin K Prim, Myriam Buduca, Alexey Spirit Yakhlakov and Kim Rix.

names of gemstone
List of gemstone species the precious stones are diamond, ruby, sapphire and emerald, with all other gemstones being semi-precious. This distinction reflects the rarity of the respective stones in ancient times, as well as their quality: all are translucent with fine color in their purest forms, except for the colorless diamond, and very hard, with hardnesses of 8 to 10 on the Mohs scale. Other stones are classified by their color, translucency and hardness. The traditional distinction does not necessarily reflect modern values, for example, while garnets are relatively inexpensive, a green garnet called tsavorite can be far more valuable than a mid-quality emerald. Another unscientific term for semi-precious gemstones used in art history and archaeology is hardstone. Use of the terms 'precious' and 'semi-precious' in a commercial context is, arguably, misleading in that it deceptively implies certain stones are intrinsically more valuable than others, which is not the case. international encyclopedia of education In modern times gemstones are identified by gemologists, who describe gems and their characteristics using technical terminology specific to the field of gemology. The first characteristic a gemologist uses to identify a gemstone is its chemical composition. For example, diamonds are made of carbon (C) and rubies of aluminium oxide Gemstones are classified into different groups, species, and varieties. For example, ruby is the red variety of the species corundum, while any other color of corundum is considered sapphire. Other examples are the Emerald (green), aquamarine blue , red beryl (red), goshenite (colorless), heliodor (yellow), and morganite (pink), which are all varieties of the mineral species beryl. TOPAZ CUBIC ZIRCONIA ALEXANDRITE Natural Aquamarine apatite gemstone BLOODSTONE- HELIOTROPE citrine gemstone yellow zircon gemstone Blue Light Black Red Yellow hindi Pink Azure green jewelry Gems are characterized in terms of refractive index, dispersion, specific gravity, hardness, cleavage, fracture, and luster. They may exhibit pleochroism or double refraction. They may have luminescence and a distinctive absorption spectrum. Material or flaws within a stone may be present as inclusions. gold cut gemstone and diamond ring size 55 stone citrine color yellow gold Gemstones may also be classified in terms of their "water". This is a recognized grading of the gem's luster and/or transparency and/or "brilliance". Very transparent gems are considered "first water", while "second" or "third water" gems are those of a lesser transparency A gemstone or gem (also called a fine gem, jewel, or a precious or semi-precious stone) is a piece of mineral crystal, which, in cut and polished form, is used to make jewelry or other adornments. However, certain rocks (such as lapis lazuli) or organic materials that are not minerals (such as amber or jet), are also used for jewelry, and are therefore often considered to be gemstones as well. Most gemstones are hard, but some soft minerals are used in jewelry because of their luster or other physical properties that have aesthetic value. Rarity is another characteristic that lends value to a gemstone. Apart from jewelry, from earliest antiquity engraved gems and hardstone carvings, such as cups, were major luxury art forms. A gem maker is called a lapidary and gem cutter; a diamond worker is a diamantaire. The carvings of Carl Fabergé are significant works in this tradition. Sapphire Tunnel Abandoned Mine
New mine video channel. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxhNU-gNyPq2lXA7JhLB90Q The Sapphire mine tunnel is 2 miles long and is the main level of this multilevel mine complex. The mine features several natural caves and is wet. The main entrance to the tunnel was closed years ago. We first attempted access from the lower levels up the shaft but the ladders became too rotten, right before we were to head home, and the sun was setting we discovered a back entrance to the sapphire level. I made a quick solo go of it and explored most of the main level in about 45 minutes. It took a week to get this video together
