You may think that this is a waste of time but do you realize how important this information truly is? In this tutorial we look at how important the marital status is on the general information page. We also examine issues with disclosing the primary residence and mailing address of a taxpayer and how CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) uses this information to determine the Province of Residence. A look at immigration and emigration to and from Canada is also briefly discussed along with the importance of disclosing this properly on the T1 Return. BOOK REVIEW THE TAX SCHEDULE: A Guide to Tax Warranties and Indemnities By Eile Gibson Spiramus Press Ltd ISBN: 978 1904905 80 6 www.spiramus.com ATTENTION TAX PRACTITIONERS AND ADVISERS: COMMON SENSE GUIDANCE ON UNTANGLING THE TAX SCHEDULE IN COMMERCIAL SALES TRANSACTIONS -- WITH ACCOMPANYING DISC An appreciation by Phillip Taylor MBE and Elizabeth Taylor of Richmond Green Chambers If you're a tax lawyer, or accountant, or advising in some capacity in matters involving the sale of a company and concerned with negotiating the tax schedule, this book from Spiramus, the specialist business publisher, should be added to your library, or preferably your desk drawer. From what we can gather having perused this book (and also not being tax specialists) the matter of the tax schedule can be confusing to the point of being impenetrable. So a guide to the processes and procedures as provided by expert author Eile Gibson is certainly timely and should prove invaluable, especially in the wake of the Finance Act 2011. As the publishers point out, new legislation -- the Finance Act 2011 in particular -- has generated changes, all of which need to be reflected in the tax schedule, the purpose of which is to determine where responsibilities and risks will occur once the sale/purchase transaction is completed. The book explains the key provisions of the tax schedule and their underlying rationale, together with long-form and short-form warranties and tax indemnities. These are also included on a disc, which you can download and adapt for your own requirements. The transactional process is explained in detail followed by chapters on such areas due diligence... the sale and purchase of a company and of a business... share schemes... venture capital schemes... and much more, including of course, the tax schedule. As a research source, the book certainly excels, containing as it does fourteen appendices which include such aids as the long-form and short-form tax schedules, time limits, penalties and errors and key checklists and much more besides. There are tables of authorities and statutes and an extensive detailed glossary designed to uncomplicate a number of otherwise complicated concepts and terms. Written by an acknowledged expert in this complex field, this is an invaluable and authoritative aid to seeing you through the almost inevitable disagreements and disputes that feature in complex negotiations inherent in the sale of companies. For tax lawyers, tax accountants and advisors, corporate lawyers and company finance directors, the acquisition of this book is a must.

http://mortgagelocator.ca/ Hi, everyone. It's Rowan Smith from the Mortgage Centre. Today's blog post is going to be very brief. If you're self-employed, file your 2009 taxes. If you haven't filed them at this point in the year - and I don't care when your fiscal year end is; I'm talking about your personal income taxes - file your income taxes. If you haven't filed them at this point, chances are I can't help you. There might be exceptions to that depending on your industry and depending on a number of different factors, but please, call me before writing an offer if you haven't filed your taxes. It is of paramount importance. For the Mortgage Centre, I'm Rowan Smith.

Once you have completed entering all the personal income tax data into the T1 general return, the final and very important step is a thorough review and reasonability check of the personal tax return. Often times, many data input mistakes are made when entering information from the box numbers on various T3, T4 & T5 slips. In this video tutorial, I take you through a step-by-step process on reviewing the tax return to see if it makes sense. In most cases, you should have a pretty consistent tax return from one year to the next. One way to check the T1 tax return is to review the current year’s tax situation, income slips, deduction and tax credits on Schedule 1 with the previous year (or previous 2 years) to make sure nothing has been missed. If you are a CPA student or accounting/tax student looking for tax preparation experience, this is a vital area to ensure that you are filing an accurate tax return for the client. In my Preparing Personal Returns Start to Finish – Best Practices course, I provide students with a system for checking tax returns to make sure nothing was missed and all the information is on the tax return itself. A capital gain tax Canada is a profit that results from a disposition of a capital asset, such as stock, bond or real estate, where the amount realized on the disposition exceeds the purchase price. The gain is the difference between a higher selling price and a lower purchase price. Conversely, a capital loss arises if the proceeds from the sale of a capital asset are less than the purchase price. Capital gains may refer to "investment income" that arises in relation to real assets, such as property; financial assets, such as shares/stocks or bonds; and intangible assets such as goodwill. Line 127 - Capital gains You may have a capital gain or capital loss when you sell or transfer capital property. Some common types of capital property include land, buildings, shares, bonds, fund and trust units. Comparison of TurboTax Versions: http://www.topfinancialtools.com/turbotax-comparison-chart-fullpage/ Hello there, my name is Nate and in this video I give a short review and overview of TurboTax 2015. I did this so you can see what TurboTax is all about and what to expect if you decide to use it. TurboTax is the most popular personal tax preparation software. It allows regular people to do their own taxes without having to rely on a CPA to do their taxes for them. TurboTax accomplishes this by giving you a step-by-step guide. You just go through and answer the simple questions it asks, and it will do the work of filling out all the right tax forms. Then you can submit it all electronically to the IRS and your state agency. We try to provide all the best tools for managing your personal finances at http://www.topfinancialtools.com. Thanks for watching! Nate
