WisdomTree's Jeremy Schwartz on Dividend ETFs

05:15
Tom Lydon speaks with WisdomTree's (NasdaqGM: WETF) Director of Research, Jeremy Schwartz, about an important development in the ETF business — the emergence of benchmarks that weight stocks by alternative factors such as dividends and volatility. A vast majority of the assets in the ETF industry are tied to one strategy: market-cap-weighted indices. "People are starting to wonder if that's a sensible thing," Schwartz explains. "We don't think that's common sense." [Dividend ETF Yield is Critical] WisdomTree, which reports quarterly earnings on Friday, believes investors should start diversifying away from cap-weighted strategies, and dividends are a compelling alternative. "It's part of a natural evolution," Schwartz said. The WisdomTree executive also tells Lydon why emerging markets are attractive based on debt levels, demographics, dividends, growth trends and other factors.

Is Dividend Yield Investing Thru ETFs Worth It

03:53
I recently received a great question from a client regarding the advisability of investing in high-dividend yielding ETFs. With these types of ETFs being made up of stocks from the utility and financial sectors, I find that the performance of the sectors determines more of the return than the yield itself. For more market insight, go to http://www.valentineventures.com The concept of high-dividend yielding ETFs and stocks is nice, but TOTAL RETURN is where an investor derives their result.

Dividend Growth ETFs Are Steady & Reliable

02:40
Dividend growth stocks and related ETFs may not be too eye-catching, but the strategy's stable nature helps investors garner steady returns. "For us, we focus on dividend growth strategies, not the highest of yielders, but the companies that are consistently growing their dividends," Simeon Hyman, Head of Investment Strategy for ProShares, said. "It gives you a very consistent profile of companies that can grow but also have a lot of downside protection as well because of the robustness of their business model - moats if you will." For example, S&P 500 Dividend Aristocrats ETF (NOBL) participated in the FANG driven or technology driven market rally last year without actually having exposure to the riskier nature of the tech segment. The ETF only includes a 1.9% tilt toward the information technology sector and was only came in a hair's breadth short of the benchmark S&P 500's performance last year.

Why High Dividend, Low Volatility ETFs Are Best in a Wild Market

01:44
Investors seeking stability in a choppy market should seek out high dividend, low volatility or REIT funds, said Todd Rosenbluth, Director of ETF and Mutual Fund Research for S&P Capital IQ. Rosenbluth added that he is positive on the SPDR S&P Dividend ETF (SDY) which holds companies that have raised dividends each of the last 20 years. He also likes the PowerShares S&P 500 Low Volatility ETF (SPLV) which owns the 100 least risky stocks in the S&P 500. Finally, Rosenbluth is a fan of the Vanguard REIT ETF (VNQ) because it offers a high dividend yield at a very inexpensive cost. Stay Ahead of the Fed With New WisdomTree Floating Rate ETF

02:34
Investors worried about interest rate risk should consider the recently-launched WisdomTree Bloomberg Floating Rate Treasury ETF, says Luciano Siracusano, Chief Investment Strategist at WisdomTree. The difference between this fund and other floating rate funds is that this one holds only Treasuries so it lacks the credit risk associated with corporate bonds or bank loans. This short duration fund is geared toward what the Federal Reserve will do in the coming months, says Siracusano, so if you think the Fed will be successful in moving rates higher, this is a smart fund to own. RYAN ISSAKAINEN, ETF STRATEGIST AT FIRST TRUST ADVISORS TALKS ABOUT DIVIDEND-PAYING STOCKS ANCHOR QUESTION OFF-CAMERA (ENGLISH) SAYING: Dividend-paying stocks got a smack down when interest rates began climbing a few months back. But the dividend trade can still work as long as you got your money parked in the right spots. Well, this is kind of a contrarian view, correct, because you think with rates going up, it's not the place to be. What do you see in the market that's a little different? RYAN ISSAKAINEN, ETF STRATEGIST AT FIRST TRUST ADVISORS (ENGLISH) SAYING: Well, I think when you look at the indexes that are constructed for dividends, you find that most of them didn't perform very well, but that wasn't necessarily because all dividend paying stocks didn't perform well. ANCHOR QUESTION OFF-CAMERA (ENGLISH) SAYING: Technology is a little strange, right? We never thought we'd have tech companies paying dividends. Yeah. So you think it is a lasting trend, will it be beyond some of the big name companies that pay out? RYAN ISSAKAINEN, ETF STRATEGIST AT FIRST TRUST ADVISORS (ENGLISH) SAYING: Ye...
