Ethereum ASIC Miner 2018 - Destroys GPU Mining? GPU Prices Back to Normal FINALLY

757 ratings | 39380 views
The cryptocurrency mining world has been shaken by the news of Bitmain creating their "F3 ETH / ETHash ASIC Miner" which apparently will be ~2x the performance of a GPU mining rig for a similar or lower cost. @VoskCoin I’m not sure about ETH but it seems some of the smaller Ethash coins (Pirl, ETC) are welcoming these ASICS. The price point and efficiency seem comparable with GPUs and with supplies being somewhat limited, these have the potential to help grow their networks without impacting miners too much. I don’t support Bitmain as a company but maybe these aren’t the worst thing in the world. On another note should these coins be rebranded as ASIC Resistant(If Necessary)?

What irony, when gamer's were knocked out by the Bitcoin miners, a lot of miners we're as rude as hell laughing at how much money they were making with their 8 x 1080ti's. Now the tables are turning and Miner's are going to experience a similar fate. I'm not on any particular side, as a 3D modeller/animator, it does suck that it's nearly possible to buy a Vegas 56 or 64 for less than $1400 because it's an excellent GPU for Blender (beats the 1080ti easily at rendering). But I'm also very curious about mining and if it does well then that's a good thing too. The real solution would to have more competition so that Nvidia and AMD would be unable to "rape" consumers, there is no doubt whatsoever they have conspired to jack up prices by limiting the supply the same way that RAM prices are artificially overpriced for profit. Just my humble opinion.

When you can set up a 12 or 19 gpu rig why get a asic, if one card goes down you can replace it, if anything in the asic goes down well. your done.

Haha! Look what Bitmain released today https://shop.bitmain.com/product/detail?pid=00020180403174908564M8dMJKtz06B7 If that is all Bitmain can do we should not fear this.

It only uses 32 GB of DDR3 ram... That's garbage compared to present day GPUs... I built a GPU mining rig for $3600, pulling 770 Watts from the wall, and hashes at 229 MH/s. Far superior to what they are offering.

Tails is such a beautiful dog! Oh, and nice video, too, Vosk! :D Edit: Yeah, as long as the video card is run at conservative temperatures, you're not reducing it's useful life by mining with it. Temperature is what kills hardware. Keep it cool, and it will last longer than you will keep it in use, ie, until you replace it with something faster.

For all you traders, Ethereum is massively oversold. Literally, the RSI (Relative Strength Index) on the 1-day time interval is the lowest it has ever been. When ETH got this low in the past it pumped 30%-75% on average. Definitely a great swing trade!

If ASICs are going to be pre-mined and distributed by a small group of companies, then it won't be good for cryptocurrency long term.
proxytypeblog (5 months ago)
only coin with randomize Crypto algorithms will save the GPU mining, it will be harder to be transfer to ASIC, coins depending on memory for protection are useless... anyone?
Pașca Alexandru (5 months ago)
I doubt that shills like Bitmain hoarded so much vram that they can afford to slap it onto their fpgas or asics (if they actually exist) 4 to 8 Gigs of vram, people! 24 to 48 gigs per miner! That's a shitload of scarce vram in there.
AngryZombie808 (5 months ago)

ETHash ASIC doesn't exist. And likely will not. Etherium will change from Proof of Work to Proof of Stake. So give your money to Bitmain and get a BRICK in return.
Moon Frog (5 months ago)
Hey but what about this. I read a little while back that the company that holds the patent for the ASIC tech that is integrated into the Bitmain miners has now become a shared patent within a consortium of companies who agree to join the consortium and release their own patents to the other companies. This means anyone who wants to build an ASIC chip just needs to join. Seems like positive news for the ASIC tech which Bitmain controls, now other companies can get into the ASIC game and decentralize bitcoin and ASIC mining. Please correct me if I am wrong on this. Here is the article. https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/there-bitcoin-patent-war-going-initiative-could-end-it/
Moon Frog (5 months ago)
and here is a quote from the article about it> "Here’s where it gets interesting: Little Dragon Technology LLC — the current owner of the AsicBoost patent — announced on March 1, 2018, that it has joined the BDPL. This makes the patent freely available to anyone who also joins the BDPL. But perhaps even more interesting is the statement Little Dragon Technology made to Bitcoin Magazine, indicating that this decision was made with broader implications in mind: ""There are a number of what we consider dangerous patents in the mining space that could be used to suppress mining competition""
Mike Rurak (5 months ago)
I'd say let it happen. I'm getting sick and tired of being called a faggot by everyone on my steam friends list(which has gotten smaller). I'm also getting tired of my dad crying about the $1000+ Canadian price he has to pay up to run his VR autoCAD thing.

ASICS didn't harm BTC, why would it harm ETH and it's going POS anyway. ETC here's your chance to explode 😉
RavenPrecept (5 months ago)
ASICs took mining out of the hands of the many into the hands of the few. A computer is a general purpose machine that you might use for many different things hence owned by lots of people. An ASIC is obviously specific to mining that coin and no use for anything else except an expensive room heater.
Raymundo Magaña (5 months ago)
I don’t like to hate... but it seems that you are really “hoping” that ASICS go away and it doesn’t affect the profitability of your GPU investment...

I'm sure Bitmain has already been mining on this. It is probably what caused the crash in ALT coins over the last 3 months.
Matt Jones (5 months ago)
It's up to the coin devs to change their algos to be asic resistant. It's not the miners' job to do that, in fact it's actually the miners' job to determine the market value for the coins and if a coin lets itself get thrashed by an asic then the world is better with it at a lower price. The next gen of coins are likely to be highly asic resistant such as raven. Coins that can't adapt will fail and it's not the miners' job to fall on their swords trying to save them.
TheCannabisWhisperer (5 months ago)
Man stop crying about asic just sell those junk cards n get on the asic wagon before your miner n channel go obsolete
David Dennis (5 months ago)
I say don’t worry about gaming on a card once used for mining. I design silicon chips like GPUs for a living. There is no wear and tear factor on a silicon die. It either works or it doesn’t. As long as all the tiny bond wires are still in place and it is operating it will be good for a very long time. No degradation. Period! Have fun with your new gaming card.

I'd also like to add that these ASIC miners coming for ETH will add to the difficulty even if all GPUs are sold out.

Bitcoin is dying.. it's an unsustainable coin and it's been made the foundation of crypto.. most markets are btc based.. if btc goes up or down.. everything follows.. not really good for crypto if BTC is dying. The crypto world needs to detach from BTC. Also... google fb and twitter banning ads for ico's is also hurting crypto.. but I understand why. Too many scams happened. However, the Argentina G20 summit result is a really good thing for crypto.
Crypto 4Techs (5 months ago)
One thing I really agree with that Vosk mentioned is to get vocal if we don't want to see ASICs take over... Let's start some tweet storms or SOMETHING to show coin devs that miners are united and want them to hold true to keeping the coins ASIC resistant like they were intended to be.

anything over MSRP is not prices returning to normal lol and these dagger asic most likely dont exist, FUD is a powerful tool for those looking to buy more coin the development of these asic would have cost much more than normal and all they need to do is change the algo slightly and it would take months to fix
Der Kong (5 months ago)
As a miner I haven't purchased a GPU since 2017... My current five rigs at todays rates profit together about $400 per month after power costs. At current prices that's $4800 per year. $15000 invested still gives me a 32% return on money invested. Hopefully mining prices go up soon but I haven't made over 1% in money in the bank in twenty years so I will continue to mine. GPU prices would have to fall to the 350-400 for a 1070Ti or better before I would be tempted to buy more. I would be more interested in the next generation of GPU's (faster and lower power)...

I don't honestly believe there is going be much competition if any from it since pricing is going down, another video mentioned a whale buying like 20-30 of them and killing our difficulty, I don't think that would be any different than a whale buying 20-30 mining rigs. Besides why would you buy something for the same price it costs to build a mining platform, that you cant or will have an extremely hard time reselling down the time line. If you did choose the asic route then not only would you make everyone judge you for joining the dark side but you would also be financially retarded.
Ahmed Zayed (5 months ago)
NOT Going to happen and ASIC makers would receive the Same response from Monero Team but this time more Aggressive from ETH Team. Even if they managed to crack out ASIC chip do it the hard fork is here to destroy them hopefully ETH and Monero Teams be the ones who rage the war against ASIC makers as it became bad business and affecting all blockchains negatively. Losses are millions so far that need to be confronted ASAP
